Sangha Night

The Tibetan wheel of life

Community pictures

Come along next week for Sangha Night, an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the Dharma, how it relates to our own lives, and practice together.

Almost anything can happen on Sangha Night, but mostly we meditate together, have a 20-30 minute presentation from someone in the community, and then have 20 minutes for small group discussion on the evening's theme.

The Tibetan wheel of life.
The wheel of life is a Buddhist symbol on the perspective of the human situation, the process of reactive conditionality. It is a combined map and users manual to samsara. This week Sujiva will be exploring the inner circle of the 3 poisons. The wheel is turned by three animals, biting each others tails:
• Cock – greedily pecking for food - lust or craving
• Snake – image of malicious harm – hatred or aversion
• Pig – eyes obscured by ears – ignorance or delusion
These are the driving forces of the wheel – of the reactive mind - and the sources of our
suffering.
But its counterproductive to respond with aversion to our nature, what we can look for is ways to
accommodate & transform limitations.
We have potential for the opposites of the poisons:
Generosity / contentment, love, wisdom.

Sangha nights are a place for people to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it. They are designed for those who have been coming to the centre for a little while. If you have had minimal contact with us, you are best to attend our Intro course first, even if you have practised within other traditions.
