Roots of freedom

Transforming the everyday messiness of being human into liberation

Tree rooted firmly in a rocky cliff climbing towards the sky

A real conundrum in practice can be figuring out how to skilfully meet, attend to, and transform the stressors and emotional difficulties of our everyday lives.

It's one thing to practice metta or mindfulness on the cushion, another to learn to bring practice into the messiness of our human hearts and minds in the flux of ordinary life.

On this non-residential retreat, we'll look at a method drawn from the ancient 7-point mind training practice. In this practice we learn to take whatever is happening - anxiety, avoidance, irritation, anger, yearning, wanting, loneliness, sadness, grief - and actively use it to open up, to move towards freedom in that moment. In this way, everything is practice.

You'll need to have an active meditation practice and know the mindfulness of breathing and metta bhavana meditations as taught in the Triratna Buddhist Commmunity to join this non-residential retreat.
