Exploring the Arts

Movie Night - Departures

Departures

Exploring the Arts at the ABC is a rich and varied programme to inspire and communicate a shared love of culture and the arts.

Our final arts event for the year is the brilliant film 'Departures' set in Japan by Yojiro Takita. It takes us on an unexpected journey with Daigo - the unlikely but likable lead character. Life changes when the orchestra he plays cello in is closed. He and his wife return to his rural home and he finds a job with a local undertaker. At this point the film leads us through the awkward, sorrowful and often comic situations that death brings about. We highly recommend this transformational movie whose music and cinematography make it both moving and authentic. Popcorn and Jaffas provided!
