108 year puja

Marking the birth of our founder Sangharakshita

Bhante Urgyen Sangharakshita in the early days of the community

Each year we mark the birth of Bhante Urgyen Sangharakshita with a 108-year puja.

Bhante founded the Triratna Buddhist Community and the Triratna Buddhist Order. He's pictured here in the early days of the movement that was originally known as Friends of the Western Buddhist Order. The name was later changed to better reflect the international nature of the growing Buddhist community.

This event honours the community of spiritual friends and the presentation of the Dharma which Bhante gifted us. No Bhante, no Auckland Buddhist Centre!

Guhyasiddhi will share his personal reflections on Bhante. There will also be readings from some of his work, including his poetry. Akasasri will lead the traditional puja.
