Sangha night

Vision and Transformation

Community pictures

Tonight we are looking at the "Speech" aspect of the path of Vision and Transformation, otherwise and more traditionally known as the Noble Eightfold path, an early and fundamental teaching of the Buddha. Why is speech so important? Well, we engage in it all the time, often without thinking. And even if we do think about what we are saying, our awareness may not extend to its affect on others (or even ourselves).

Our advanced evolutionary status as human beings is largely the result of our ability to communicate. And while we can communicate in ever more refined ways, for the benefit of ourselves and others, we can also cause great harm with our words. Speech is a powerful and ever present carrier of karma. What we say affects our spiritual lives, just as our spiritual faculties affect what we say.

Come along tonight and hear Mary Anna (interestingly a sign language devotee), her take on Perfect Speech, and how we can work with this aspect of ourselves, in order to progress along the path of Vision and Transformation.

Please note an experimental rearrangement of Sangha night structure - we will be meditating first at 7pm for about half an hour. If you arrive late, don't worry, please just slip in as quietly as you can. We will probably be in the warmth of the room at the top of the stairs.

Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it.
