Beauty and Nature
with Karunajoti
The Buddha was deeply immersed in nature. Over 2500 years ago he was born beneath a tree, he gained enlightenment beneath a Bodhi tree and died, surrounded by his disciples, beneath a pair of Sal trees. The early Buddhist community lived in the forest under large trees, and in caves in mountainous regions. They cultivated great respect and appreciation for the beauty of their natural surroundings.
Today, spending time amidst mountains, beside rivers and in forests in meditation, reflection and silence can help us to cultivate a strong sense of interconnection with nature, a sense of non-separation where we begin to experience our natural surroundings as a living, breathing, animated world deserving of our empathy.
On this evening Karunajoti will talk about the different ways we can practice as Buddhists in nature. She will also share her inspirations for the recent 'Living Nature' retreat and another, with a similar theme, coming up over New Year's at Sudarshanaloka.
Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community as well as an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Buddha's teaching.
Each evening will include a meditation, a short teaching and a chance to reflect with others on the meaning of the teaching for our lives.
Before attending, please read our current Covid Guidelines. This is part of how we practice together.
