Tonight we are looking at the "Awareness" aspect of the path of Vision and Transformation, otherwise and more traditionally known as the Noble Eightfold path, an early and fundamental teaching of the Buddha.
What is meant by awareness here? You might not be surprised that we're talking about "mindfulness", a much hyped word used helpfully in many books and courses in the secular world over the last thirty years or so. There are lots of different types of awareness or mindfulness, and Buddhism teaches everything from awareness of sensations, all the way to awareness of reality - of things as they really are. (You won't normally get this in a secular mindfulness course.)
Of course an important thing about mindfulness is not what you can know about it, but how it can affect you in your daily life (or as we often experience, how the lack of it can affect you.) Tonight we welcome back Rohan who will share with us her reflections and experience of how mindfulness positively influences her life. Be prepared for interesting examples which you will be able to relate to your own life, giving you things to what out for, and tools to try.
Please note in our relatively new Sangha night format, we will be meditating first at 7pm for about half an hour. If you arrive late, don't worry, please just slip in as quietly as you can. We will probably be in the warmth of the room at the top of the stairs.
Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it.
By donation (suggested $15). (Cash or EFTPOS)
Nothing to spare tonight? Come along anyway. You’re always welcome.
Before attending, please read our current Covid Guidelines. This is part of how we practice together.
