Sangha night

With open-handed generosity

Community pictures

Tonight we start a new series on dana (generosity). Generosity is an important practice in Buddhism, being the second of five ethical precepts (or training principles) that as Buddhists we try to keep in mind, and also the first practice or perfection of a Bodhisattva.

This evening, Suvarnadhi introduces the series, looking at why giving is so important on the spiritual path, who to give to, and how to give.

In doing so she will look at the aspect of generosity that is giving material things (e.g. money), probably the type of giving that first springs to mind when we think of generosity. However, there are lots of other types of generosity, and the talks later in this series will explore some of these.

So join us tonight to listen, discuss and reflect on generosity as a practice, and the benefits of doing so, while connecting with others.

Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it. They generally include a talk and discussion, a social cup of tea and meditation.
