Gotta luvva Dhamma list!
Buddhism is renowned for its lists - the four noble truths, the five precepts, the eight-fold path will be just a few you may have come across. Why are there so many? Well, they are an aid for memory, and were particularly useful when Buddhism was a purely oral tradition. Nothing was written down for a few hundred years, and the Dharma therefore needed to be taught by word of mouth alone. The teachers therefore had to remember a lot, and having lists made this easier.
We still use these lists today, because as an aid de memoir they can still be useful in ensuring we have covered every aspect of a particular topic, and not left out any important bits.
This evening, Cittamuni and Suvarnadhi both tell us what their favourite list is and why.
So while we can't tell exactly what the Dharma teachings will be tonight, they are bound to be interesting to reach the heights of "My favourite list" of these two experienced Dharma practitioners.
Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community as well as an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Buddha's teaching, and their understanding of how to practice it. Now back in person at the Centre, they generally include a talk and discussion, followed by a cup of tea and then a meditation in the shrine room.
Before attending, please read our current Covid Guidelines. This is part of how we practice together.
