Mitra ceremony

Welcoming new friends to the community

The three jewels of Buddhism - Buddha, Dharma and Sangha

We welcome Priya, Maddy, Pulasthi, James, Claire and Kate to the mitra sangha with a traditional ritual followed by celebratory tea and cake.

The Sanskrit word 'mitra' simply means 'friend'.

Mitras are people who have made a commitment to practising the Dharma within our spiritual community, the Triratna Buddhist Community.

When we become a mitra we're saying that from where we stand now, this community of practice looks like the path for us and we want to give it a wholehearted trial.

Becoming a mitra is a significant event in our spiritual lives, so it is witnessed in a public ceremony.

All welcome.
