Intro to meditation and Buddhism

Mindful awareness

Vairocana Buddha turning the wheel of the Dharma

This class is the place for newcomers to the Auckland Buddhist Centre to learn meditation and the basics of Buddhism.

TONIGHT: Mindful awareness
This week we start to look at what Buddhism means by words like mindfulness and awareness. What role does they play within Buddhist practice? Can you actually cultivate and change the breadth of your personal experience? To what extend is our awareness strictly personal and to what extent is it more objective? Do these words, personal and objective, even make sense in Buddhism? How can we start to bring mindfulness alive in our daily life?

This exploration will be supported by meditation instruction on the breath and / or body.

This class happens every Tuesday night at 7pm, even on public holidays. It's a rolling 11-week introductory programme. You can join on any Tuesday night. Classes are designed as much as possible to stand alone for this purpose. But committing to all 11 nights over time will give you the thorough foundation you need to establish your own meditation practice, and step confidently into other classes and retreats.
