Full Moon Ritual

Soup and Puja

Buddha with a chandelier above him

Join us in the Auckland Buddhist Centre for soup and then a shared devotional practice in the Shrine Room. All welcome.

6pm - Soup and conversation
7pm - Seven-fold Puja

The Puja will take around an hour so we expect the evening to finish around 8pm.

A Puja includes chanting traditional verses (in call and response), in this case written originally by Shantideva, an 8th century Indian Buddhist monk, poet and philosopher, and translated for a puja context by Sangharakshita, the founder of the Triratna Buddhist Order. Most verses will be in English, and a few are in Pali. You are welcome to chant with us, or just listen and let the chanting wash over you. Offerings to the shrine, an important part of Buddhist Puja, are also optional.

Puja, especially when conducted in a beautiful shrine room with others, is about the cultivation and expansion of positive emotions, a lifting up of the heart to something higher, touching something higher, experiencing, even if only for a moment, something higher. When we do this with one another, the experience is enhanced at a individual level, as well as deepening the development of true community.
