We're embarking on a series of Friday night pujas on the theme of Milarepa, the great yogi of Tibet, who expressed himself through joyful song. Borrowing from the London Buddhist Centre's recent online retreat, we're calling them the Fire of Joy pujas, because frankly, that sounds pretty good in these strange times!
The story of the 11th century yogi Milarepa is a hero's tale of hardship, errant paths, disciplined training, heartbreak, devotion, and ultimate liberation.
In his process of seeking liberation, he too got depressed, experienced nostalgia for the good old days, was tested and had his saintly cover blown. Ultimately, he found the joy of liberation and left us with 100,000 songs to help us do the same.
These pujas are a collaborative effort, led from the women's community, with contributions from other friends.
This is a wonderful and positive way to gather together at the end of the (online) work week.
