Have you ever wondered why people commit to practising Buddhism?
If so, tonight is not to be missed. Because tonight we will be listening to two Mitras (the Buddhist word for 'friend') Sandy Lee and Malcolm Dow, talk about why they decided to commit to Dharma practise in the context of the Triratna Buddhist Community. Kusalamani one of our two mitra convenors along with Sujiva, will talk about the significance of taking this step.
We title these evenings "Why I am a Buddhist?"
The Triratna Buddhist Community is open to all those who wish to practise Buddhism.
And the Auckland Buddhist Centre is part of this international Buddhist community.
Most people encounter Triratna through a meditation or Buddhism class at a Triratna centre. Everyone who has contact with Triratna is considered a friend. However someone who wants to make a particular connection with our community and see their Buddhist practice in that context can ask to become a ‘Mitra’ (which simply means ‘friend’ in Sanskrit).

The evening starts in the shrine room and ends a little after 8pm. After that, you are welcome to then stay for a cup of tea, ask further questions, talk about Buddhism, and meet like-minded people.
Although Dharma Night is suitable for everyone, regardless of their level of experience or exposure to Buddhism, if you like what you find we recommend that you sign up for one of our introductory Buddhist meditation courses. These courses provide a systematic introduction to Buddhist meditation practise and are really the best first step if you feel like exploring more.
