The White Lotus Sutra: The parable of the jewel in the robe

buddha

The White Lotus Sutra is one of the most popular and influential Buddhist teachings. Through a series of parables and myths it conveys the beauty and mystery of the dharma, enriching our everyday perspective on life. In this series of four talks we’ll be inviting you to open yourself to the magic and mystery of the stories of the White Lotus Sutra, stories which are both wondrous and immensely practical.

We’ll be introducing an elder and his mischievous children, all living in a ruined mansion; a drunkard with a jewel in his pocket; a penniless son and his wealthy father, and we’ll be soaked by an incredible downpour of nourishment that brings joy and growth to all it touches.

The parable of the jewel in the robe
On the third evening of our current theme Guhyasiddhi will tell the parable of the jewel in the robe; a story about how we might travel the whole world and never find what is in our hearts.

Dharma night is suitable for those who would like to learn more about Buddhism. It is also a popular night for regular friends to drop in and practice together. If you are a beginner but can't get to/or have just started one of our meditation classes, you are still welcome to come and join in.

The usual program for these evenings is a talk on some aspect of Buddhism followed by a tea break and a group meditation to end the evening.
