Dharma Monday

The six perfections and the Bodhisattva ideal

Yellow Buddha

During our current theme we'll be focusing on the six qualities that a Bodhisattva actively cultivates. We'll also address the question of who is a Bodhisattva, what makes them different from other Buddhists and where are they pointing with their practice of the Dharma. In doing this we'll also try to deepen our understanding of what the 'bodhicitta' might be referring to.

Celebrating modern day Bodhisattvas
On this evening we will bring our series on the Bodhisattva ideal and the six perfections to an end by considering some modern day dharmafarers who might or might not be bodhisattvas.

Sujiva will introduce us to the life of Dr. Ambedkar, the civil rights leader who led mass conversions to Buddhism of ex-untouchables out of the Hindu caste system. Many of these Ambedkarites have become Triratna Order members. This will be followed by Ratnavyuha reflecting on Bhante Sangharakshita and what he has done with his life. Bhante himself says that we cannot really say whether or not someone is a Bodhisattva until after they die, but Ratnavyuha's going to talk about it a little before then anyways. After listening to what is said it will be interesting to hear what you might think?

Dharma night is suitable for those who would like to learn more about Buddhism. It is also a popular night for regular friends to drop in and practice together. If you are a beginner but can't get to/or have just started one of our meditation classes, you are still welcome to come and join in.

The usual program for the evening is a talk on some aspect of Buddhism, tea break, then group meditation to end the evening.
