Dharma Monday

a closer look at friendship

buddha face

For the past year, we've been trying to cultivate a community of friends attending Monday nights.

If you want to find out more about Buddhism, what it has to offer the modern world, what it has to offer you, and how to bring these Buddhist teachings into your practical daily life ... then please join us for these Monday night sessions.

You are most welcome to join us for an interactive evening exploring the various dimensions of spiritual friendship, from Aristotle’s “friendships of the good” to so-called "horizontal" and "vertical" friendships... both within the Auckland Buddhist Centre sangha and in the rest of our lives.

Elizabeth will spark the conversation with some examples from her own experience; however, this evening is designed to encourage all present to think a little more expansively about the role of friendship in supporting our individual and collective spiritual paths.

There is no unchanging format for these evenings (best to check here on the website in advance if you want to know the particulars). However, they usually include a short presentation on Buddhism, group discussion, practical tools you can take away with you for immediate use, and sometime a short meditation exercise. This first part of the evening ends a little after 8pm. After that, you are welcome to stay for a cup of tea, ask further questions, and talk more about Buddhism.

Dharma Night is suitable for everyone, regardless of their level of experience or exposure to Buddhism. If you like what you find we recommend that you sign up for one of our introductory Buddhist meditation courses. These courses provide a systematic introduction to Buddhist meditation practise.
