The four lineages of Triratna

Buddhaandstupas

Four rich lineages open up to us when we encounter the Auckland Buddhist Centre. While specific to the Triratna Order and movement these lineages draw on the whole Buddhist tradition going back to the Buddha himself. These lineages give Triratna its particular shape, flavour and emphases.

In this series of talks four Order members will be introducing these unique lineages and exploring how they influence their lives.

Lineage of responsibility with Purna:
In 2009 Sangharakshita defined the ‘lineage of responsibility’ as ‘the structures that need to be carried on and in some cases perhaps modified if they no longer fulfil their original purpose’. Do organisational principles and structures matter with a spiritual movement? What is the purpose of them? To change our self only requires the support of a few spiritual friends, but to change our wider society and to work collaboratively requires structures, both social and physical. How can we maintain a balance between the needs of individuals and the institutions. How do we balance rights and duties?

Dharma night is suitable for those who would like to learn more about Buddhism. It is also a popular night for regular friends to drop in and practice together. If you are a beginner but can't get to/or have just started one of our meditation classes, you are still welcome to come and join in.

The usual program for the evening is a talk on some aspect of Buddhism, tea break, then group meditation to end the evening.
