The Buddha’s awakening, as he described it, was a deep seeing into how things arise: when this is, that is; with the arising of this, that arises; when this is not, that is not; with the ceasing of this, that ceases. This principle of conditionality sits at the heart of the Dharma, and it’s the view that quietly underlies everything from the Four Noble Truths to the practice of the Eightfold Path.
Coming at the start of the year, when the long summer break has loosened our routines, this weekend is a chance to reinvigorate your practice again with a fresh heart and a wider perspective. We'll explore what it means to see our experience as a flow of causes and conditions rather than a collection of fixed things, including a fixed “me.” This isn’t an abstract idea to be filed away. Seeing conditionality clearly shows us why we suffer, why we can change, and how the quality of our actions, thoughts and surroundings shapes the people we become.
Through meditation, talks, reflection and discussion, we’ll look at how to create the conditions that support our practice, and how to work with the ones that don’t.
We find these weekends are a great way for us to practice in a little more depth together and get to know each other better, while still allowing time for 'life admin'.
These non-residentials are best suited to regulars at the ABC who have already learned our foundation meditation practices - the mindfulness of breathing and metta bhavana.
We come together Friday night, Saturday morning and Sunday morning. We ask participants to commit to all three full sessions.
Bookings close Thursday 14 January 12 midday.
$85 / $130
Before attending, please read our current Covid Guidelines. This is part of how we practice together.
