This week Maitrikashin explores meditative clarity through awareness on the cushion.
When we start an exploration of the realms of meditation, we can often experience an early liberation of mind. The shift away from unhelpful patterns of thinking or a respite from entrenched activity of the mind can be a wonderful experience. This is sometimes referred to as "beginners mind". It is a very positive experience. It can also lead you to believe that meditative liberation is the spiritual fuel to take you out into the world of daily challenge.
That is partly true. Living the Dharma in your daily experience of the world is another source of that spiritual fuel. As you increasingly meet the events of daily life by presenting yourself with calm, openness, curiosity, compassion, empathy and respect, you are establishing more beneficial patterns of awareness. You are also preparing yourself for enhanced, more beneficial meditative awareness.
What you bring with you into meditation shapes your meditation. They are linked, not separated. Just as there is a path that leads to the end of suffering, there are antidotes you can apply to identifiable distractions and hindrances while meditating.
Join Maitrikashin and the Sangha night team, as we continue our exploration of awareness in the Buddhist context.
Wednesday nights are a place for people to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it. They are designed for those who have been coming to the centre for a little while. If you have had minimal contact with us, you are best to attend our Intro courses on Tuesday evenings first.
By donation (suggested $15). (Cash or EFTPOS)
Nothing to spare tonight? Come along anyway. You’re always welcome.
Before attending, please read our current Covid Guidelines. This is part of how we practice together.
