Last week, Sthiraratna presented on overview of the various types of awareness we have (or could have), as an introduction to this new series on that topic. Tonight, we are very fortunate in having Ratnadharini, Chair of the College of Public Preceptors, who is visiting from the UK, talk to us about awareness in everyday life.
In his book on the Noble Eightfold Path, Sangharakshita delineated four basic kinds of awareness. Three of them, awareness of things, awareness of self and awareness of other people, play a part in what we might call everyday awareness. We will be delving more deeply into these later in the series, leading up to a discussion on the fourth type - awareness of reality - on October 16.
For now, Ratnadharini will share her approach to awareness in everyday life, the benefits of maintaining it, and the challenges she experiences in doing so. And given her official responsibilities within the Triratna order, there are likely to be significant challenges.
So join Ratnadharini and the Sangha night team, as we start to explore awareness in the Buddhist context.
Wednesday nights are a place for people to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it. They are designed for those who have been coming to the centre for a little while. If you have had minimal contact with us, you are best to attend our Intro courses on Tuesday evenings first.
By donation (suggested $15). (Cash or EFTPOS)
Nothing to spare tonight? Come along anyway. You’re always welcome.
Before attending, please read our current Covid Guidelines. This is part of how we practice together.
