Tonight we are starting a new series where we will discuss various aspects of awareness or mindfulness. Awareness is a term many Buddhists prefer, partly because it distinguishes it from the popular secular mindfulness industry that has exploded in the west over the last fifty years or so. There are other reasons too.
Over the next seven or eight weeks, we we look more deeply into different types of awareness, but tonight we will provide an overview of the topic, and touch on some of the things you might expect in the series.
So come along tonight as Sthiraratna attempts, after meditation and a cup of tea, to delineate the aspects of awareness that we are going to cover, and why they are important in the life of a Buddhist.
Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it.
