Beauty and the Buddha

Ratnasambhava

In this series we will look at Beauty and its power to open us to a deeper connection with the
Buddha.

“To live the Buddhist life, to become like the Buddha, we must imagine the Buddha.” Subhuti

In order to imagine the Buddha, we need to make use of a number of faculties. The obvious starting point is using the power of our mind to create a visual image. We can also use a felt sense, an unconscious engagement with mystery, a visceral somatic response, a resonance of a sound, a knowing within ourselves to imagine the Buddha too. Through engaging with Beauty, we can open our senses to these different faculties. In this way, Beauty becomes a tool to open the gateway to our imagination and bring us closer to a fuller realisation of the Buddha.

Beauty and Creativity
with Vajrasarasi

On this evening Vajrasarasi will look at the significance of visual imagery in the Buddhist tradition. She will explain what Rupas (statues representing the Buddha) signify and how we can make use of them in our practice. She will discuss the meanings attached to various colours within the Buddhist tradition. She will also explain how creativity can expand our heart response so that we are less reactive in our daily lives.

Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community as well as an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Buddha's teaching.

Each evening will include a meditation, a short teaching and a chance to reflect with others on the meaning of the teaching for our lives.
