Sangha night

The Brahma Viharas - Mudita

Community pictures

We continue our look at the Brahma Viharas, which literally translates at "Divine Abidings". These are a series of practices that includes metta (loving kindness), karuna (compassion), mudita (sympathetic joy) and upeksha (equanimity).

Tonight Maitrikashin returns to share his thoughts on and experience of mudita (sympathetic joy). This is essentially a feeling of positivity in response to the happiness, the achievements, or simply the being of others. There is a complete lack of competitiveness in mudita. We don't feel aggrieved that another person has achieved something we would like to have achieved. There is no envy. Easy, huh?

Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it. They generally include a talk and discussion, a social cup of tea and meditation.
