Ordination Reflections - The Noble Eightfold Path
We have just completed a series on the Buddha's Noble Eightfold Path in which he prescribed areas of our (internal and external) lives to focus on and make more positive, in order to develop spiritually, and indeed allow the possibility of Enlightenment or Awakening.
Two of the Sangha night team, Buddhanusarin and Sthiraratna, recently took part in an Ordination retreat which both agree was the highlight of their spiritual journey to date. Joining the Triratna Order is sometimes described through the metaphor of letting go of ones old self (Spiritual Death) and transitioning to a new type of being (Spiritual Rebirth). And it is the result of many years of training through which the Noble Eightfold Path takes no small part.
Tonight Buddhanusarin and Sthiraratna each describe their personal experiences of training for ordination in relation to the principle of Vision and Transformation, which underlies the whole Noble Eightfold Path, in the context of their 30-day Ordination Retreat.
Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community as well as an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Buddha's teaching, and their understanding of how to practice it. They generally include a talk and discussion, followed by a cup of tea and then a meditation. Note that we are temporarily meeting at the Ponsonby Community Centre while we find a new permanent home for the centre.
Before attending, please read our current Covid Guidelines. This is part of how we practice together.
