A talk and shared exploration of the meaning of the traditional Parinirvana Day festival (which falls on Feb 15 in the annual Buddhist calendar).
Parinirvana refers specifically to the Buddha's death, but more generally to the release of an enlightened being from "the rounds of conditioned existence". But what does this actually mean? What specifically happened to the Buddha when he died? And does it even make any sense to ask this question?
Tonight Sthiraratna explores the meaning of parinirvana, which will inevitably involve looking at what enlightenment is. He will also explain the ritual at the centre this coming Saturday evening (Feb 17), to which all are invited.
Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it. They generally include a talk and discussion, a social cup of tea and meditation.
