Tonight we are looking at "Samadhi" or the meditation aspect of the path of Vision and Transformation, otherwise and more traditionally known as the Noble Eightfold path, an early and fundamental teaching of the Buddha.
Samadhi is one of those untranslatable words - it is a part of, a product of meditation, but it actually refers, in its fullest sense, to a refined state of concentration, not just of the mind but of ones whole being. We're getting into some seriously advanced stuff here, as evidenced by Sangharakshita's suggestion that "relative" Samadhi is a meditative state, but "absolute" Samadhi is an Enlightened state. Perfect Samadhi is, then, the fruition of the whole of the Path of Transformation.
Saying more here could mislead ... so come along tonight and hear Dhiramuni's reflection on, and how he relates to, this outcome of the meditation process in its relative aspect (concentration), and what effectively is an enlightened state of being in it's absolute aspect.
Please note in our relatively new Sangha night format, we will be meditating first at 7pm for about half an hour. If you arrive late, don't worry, please just slip in as quietly as you can. We will probably be in the warmth of the room at the top of the stairs.
Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it.
By donation (suggested $15). (Cash or EFTPOS)
Nothing to spare tonight? Come along anyway. You’re always welcome.
Before attending, please read our current Covid Guidelines. This is part of how we practice together.
