The wheel of life and the Nidana chain
We start a new theme tonight, that of the "wheel of life". This image, widely used in the Indo-Tibetan tradition of Buddhism, is a pictorial image of how most of us live our lives, how we fall victim to the same traps (poisons) over and over again, and how, on extreme occasions, we can fall into a realm of being that is very painful and difficult to escape.
This evening Buddhanusarin will introduce the theme of the wheel of life, and give an overview of its pictorial impact, some of the meanings behind the images, and how it can be used to alert us to, and ultimately guide us away from, our often unhelpful behaviours and habitual responses.
Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it. They generally include a talk and discussion, a social cup of tea and meditation.
