Resting in the infinite light of Amitabha Buddha
Although Buddhism is a non-theistic religion (no creator-God), it doesn't mean that Buddhists don't make use of imaginal or archetypal figures. These figures might represent different elements of spiritual development, characteristics of awakening, and even unconscious processes.
This is the final evening in a series in which we look at some of these Buddhist "deities".
Tonight, Suvarnadhi guides us in an evening with the Buddha of Infinite Light, Amitabha, a key figure in the Pure Land teachings of East Asian Buddhism. These teachings encourage us to entrust ourselves to something not of ourselves as we tend to conceive of ourselves, to trust in boundless light and love. Does this align with the Buddha's teachings on self-effort? Come along and find out.
