Nothing Special Retreat

One week meditation retreat with Paramananda for Triratna Order members and GFR mitras

There is a danger that our practice of meditation can become a refined version of our everyday habits. We can become driven by craving and be preoccupied with having somehow ‘special’ experiences whilst meditating.

However, the real basis of meditation practice is a fidelity to our experience just as it is. When we meditate we do not have to grasp after some sort of extraordinary experience but rather we just need to experience our mind in the moment with awareness and kindness. On this retreat we will explore the fact that to meditate is to show a sense of care to ourselves and the world simply by being present and giving kind attention to them both.

We have listed the retreat dates early so people can start considering whether or not they wish to attend.

To begin with from the 1st May, bookings for this retreat and the Alchemical Heart retreat will only be open to Order members and GFR mitras. Due to limited space and expecting both retreats to fill up, we are asking that people only book to attend one of these two retreats. If you would like to attend both retreats, please send a separate email to Karunajoti at the ABC letting her know. Also, Sudarshanaloka relies on holding two full capacity retreats for necessary income, so only book if you are sure you can attend. Places will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

If there are still spaces available on 15 May, we will open bookings for these retreats to the wider mitra sangha. After that, we are expecting that both retreats will soon be fully booked with waiting lists.

A $100 non-refundable deposit will be required at the time of booking to secure your place and the balance needs to be paid one month before the retreat begins. If you cancel less than one month prior to the retreat, your retreat fee can only be refunded if the retreat is full and we are able to find a replacement for you. So please be as certain as you can when booking that you are going to attend so that others don't miss out on this very precious opportunity.

If you want to camp (only way to have a single room), please indicate this when you make your booking.

A $50 travel discount can be applied for those travelling from outside Thames or Auckland who need assistance.
