Intro to meditation and Buddhism - NOTE NEW VENUE

Understanding and practising the Buddhist path

Group of friends at the Auckland Buddhist Centre (ABC)

This class is the place for newcomers to the Auckland Buddhist Centre to learn meditation and the basics of Buddhism and how we practice it within our tradition.

This class is a rolling 11-week introductory programme. You can start any Monday night. Classes are designed as much as possible to stand alone for this purpose. But committing to all 11 nights over time will give you the thorough foundation you need to establish your own meditation practice, and step confidently into other classes and retreats.

Over the course of 11 weeks, you'll be introduced to our two foundational meditation practices: the mindfulness of breathing and the cultivation of kindness (aka the metta bhavana). We also give you an understanding of the principles of Buddhism - both the why and how of practice - covering karma, positive emotion, ethics, mindfulness, ritual and devotion, and wisdom teachings. We'll also give a bit of a potted history of Buddhism and where our Triratna Buddhist Community fits within it.
