Exploring the Arts at the Auckland Buddhist Centre

A night of baroque and jazz with John Cranna and 'The Misty Girls'

Reiko and Mika

Baroque and jazz share a lot in common - both are highly structured yet extremely listener-friendly. Amateur musicians John Cranna, Reiko Yanai and Mika Lawrence will treat you to some gorgeous baroque and jazz favourites with catchy melodies, clever variations and toe-tapping rhythms.

John has played the flute and the piano from a young age and has chosen the flute to be his main instrument throughout his adult life. He has been involved with the Auckland Buddhist Centre community for a number of years and will be playing flute music by Bach, Telemann and Vivaldi accompanied by Reiko.

Originally from Japan, Mika (soprano) and Reiko (piano) are both classically trained musicians based in Auckland. Together they have appeared in competitions, recitals, charity performances and corporate functions offering a wide range of repertoire from opera arias to jazz standards.

On this evening you will be entertained with all-time favourite jazz and show tunes, including 'As time goes by', 'All of me' and 'Georgia on my mind'.
