This week we will continue to explore the Bodhisattva Ideal and the importance of friends in the spiritual life.
Individual inspiration is important as a Buddhist. The Buddha urged people to not trust what he said, simply because he said it, but rather to test it in their own experience. He asked people to take him seriously.
Tonight, Akshobini will be sharing some of her own experiences and own inspirations around the Bodhisattva's aspiration to help others.
The five aspects of Buddhist practise can be discussed under the headings of:
We are now exploring the value of practising with like-minded people. Our practise of the Dharma will be more successful when done in the company of others, rather than something done alone and by ourselves.
For most people, the biggest hurdle to making progress with Buddhism is finding the inspiration to do regular practise (like sticking with the exploration of mindfulness over the span of months and years). Besides being insightful, such effort can also be fun and enjoyable. Attending these Monday nights is one way to help ourselves continue with our practise and exploration: we get to meet like-minded people, to have those deeper discussions about life which are so difficult to find sometimes, and to learn a 'box of tools' capable of changing our life for the better.
The evening starts in the shrine room and ends a little after 8pm. After that, you are welcome to stay for a cup of tea, ask further questions, and talk more about Buddhism.
Dharma Night is suitable for everyone, regardless of their level of experience or exposure to Buddhism. If you like what you find we recommend that you sign up for one of our introductory Buddhist meditation courses. These courses provide a systematic introduction to Buddhist meditation practise.
