So often, life just doesn’t match up to our expectations or do what we want it to do. Consequently, we end up feeling frustrated, dissatisfied, or overwhelmed with life. During this four week Dharma Monday theme we will be exploring the three characteristics of human existence as taught by the Buddha and what this means as a practical application in our lives.
Come and find out how this teaching can liberate us from the the rounds of conditioned existence.
Suffering - A Foe or Friend
Call it whatever name you may - Dukkha, Suffering, Pain, Disappointment, Irritation, Dissatisfaction, Humdrum. The fact is we all know this familiar old foe that has foreshadowed our daily life since time immemorial. We have become so accustomed to this familiar feeling of dissatisfaction that we don't even recognize how it drives our every action in life. Paradoxically the more we try to get rid of this unsavoury hanger-on, the more unsavory it becomes...
This talk will explore what the Buddha had to say about Dukkha and the different ways we encounter Dukkha in our lives. With personal and practical examples, we will explore ways to transform our relationship with Dukkha from that of a foe to a friend, and perhaps ways that may liberate us from painfully circling the rounds of existence.
Dharma night is suitable for those who would like to learn more about Buddhism. It is also a popular night for regular friends to drop in and practice together. If you are a beginner but can't get to/or have just started one of our meditation classes, you are still welcome to come and join in.
The usual program for the evening is a talk on some aspect of Buddhism, tea break, then group meditation to end the evening.
