Dharma Monday

Practical Wisdom for Everyday life

Yellow Buddha

So often, life just doesn’t match up to our expectations or do what we want it to do. Consequently, we end up feeling frustrated, dissatisfied, or overwhelmed with life. During this four week Dharma Monday theme we will be exploring the three characteristics of human existence as taught by the Buddha and what this means as a practical application in our lives.
Come and find out how this teaching can liberate us from the the rounds of conditioned existence.

Not being fooled by appearances: Anatta and the open dimension of being

The third of the three lakshanas, anatta is the wise observation that nothing has an inherent, abiding and permanent self. This goes against our assumptions and the way we naturally act. But, with practice and reflection, it is possible to experience the release from this pervasive delusion in our everyday life. When this happens, we begin to experience the open dimension of being which is ineffable, indescribable, to which no notion or concept really applies. All dualistic notions of us & them, here & there, now & then, this & that ... fall away as sign posts for imperative action and concrete experience. As these chains fall away, Freedom arises.

Dharma night is suitable for those who would like to learn more about Buddhism. It is also a popular night for regular friends to drop in and practice together. If you are a beginner but can't get to/or have just started one of our meditation classes, you are still welcome to come and join in.

The usual program for the evening is a talk on some aspect of Buddhism, tea break, then group meditation to end the evening.
