The symbol of the Wheel of Life has within it the whole of the Buddhist tradition. Before the printed word, this image contained everything you needed to know to practise the teachings of the Buddha. However, as with any detailed symbols, you needed someone to introduce you to its secrets.
Tonight, Ratnavyuha and Antony will be introducing us to the fundamental role of spiritual ignorance (the critical and basic misunderstanding of our role and relationship within our experience) for all the dissatisfaction and difficulties we experience in our lives.
Not everything in our lives can be changed through changing our understanding of life. Obviously, there is little you can do to make yourself taller. Still, what we believe shapes how we act, how we act shapes what happens to us, and what happens to us is not completely independent from how we understand life and life's goals.
BIG topic ... and we'll only scratch the surface. Hopefully scratching it enough for us all to find a greater appreciation of how important it is to acknowledge to ourselves the ways in which our feelings and thoughts shape our experiences.
These evenings start in the shrine room and end somewhere between 8:30 and 9pm. There will be an opportunity to ask your questions about Buddhism, both formally and informally.
Dharma Night is suitable for everyone, regardless of their level of experience or exposure to Buddhism. If you like what you find we recommend that you sign up for one of our introductory Buddhist meditation courses. These courses provide a systematic introduction to Buddhist meditation practise.
