Dharma Monday

Introduction to the new Dharma night format and theme

buddha face

The team of us who co-lead these Monday nights together have decided to experiment with a new format. Our basic desire is to create an evening in which people are introduced to some of the practical tools from the Buddhist tradition that they can use to change their lives.

Over the course of the first half of 2019, we will leading evenings presenting such tools for change. Broadly speaking, these tools will fall under five categories:

Integration
Positive Emotion
Letting do of unhelpful habits of heart and mind
Cultivating helpful habits of heart and mind
Sensitivity to the Mystery of Enlightenment

When we exercise ourselves in these ways, consistently and earnestly over a few months, such practises are guaranteed to change how we experience our life and the world around us. Although no one has time to waste of practises that don't work, no one can do these practises for you.

For most people, the biggest hurdle to regular practise is procrastination and distraction. Attending these Monday nights each week are one way to help ourselves develop motivation and commitment through personal experience and the support of other like-minded people. These Monday nights will also provide us with a 'box of practical tools' capable of changing our life for the better.

The evening starts in the shrine room and ends around 8pm. After that, you are welcome to then stay for a cup of tea, ask further questions, talk about Buddhism, and meet like-minded people.

Although Dharma Night is suitable for everyone, regardless of their level of experience or exposure to Buddhism, if you like what you find we recommend that you sign up for one of our introductory Buddhist meditation courses. These courses provide a systematic introduction to Buddhist meditation practise and are really the best first step if you feel like exploring more.
