Friendship is an important part of Buddhist practice. But how can friendship with like minded people help lead to wisdom? There is a beautiful story from the Pali Canon where Ananada, the Buddha's attendant, makes the statement that spiritual friendship is half of the Buddhist life. The Buddha corrects him to say that it is not half of the spiritual life, it is the whole of the spiritual life. What exactly does this mean? Well, perhaps it is something that needs to be felt more than talked about. This Monday is an opportunity to share in the celebration as six new people commit themselves to just such friendships within the Auckland Buddhist Centre sangha.
Those becoming mitras on this special evening are:
Antony Raymont, Catherine Flynn, David Raubenheimer, Felicity Bolley, Jay Garman and Kiri Kotara.
