We're delighted to announce a new permanent address for the Auckland Buddhist Centre: 45B Normanby Road, Mt Eden.
Classes will continue at the Ponsonby Community Centre while we do some work on the interior of the new building to make it great for our needs. So there's no move-in date yet, although the property is officially ours from 1 September.
The new centre location is at the northern end of Mt Eden, very close to the train station, the maunga itself and the beautiful park around it, and also convenient in terms of motorway access. It's within walking distance of the central city and university. So we're moving from a suburban environment to a more urban one: an exciting move! And our challenge is to attend to the interior aesthetics of the building to create an urban sanctuary as best we can.
Check out the property as it is now in this video (and many thanks to Yuhei Umezaki, the agent for the property, for allowing us to continue to use his marketing video).
A lot of work has gone into finding and bringing the purchase of a new property to a close, and the next step is to start planning interior work and from there, timings for when we might start using the centre for various activities. You'll be hearing more from us soon!
In the meantime, we'll keep seeing you at the Ponsonby Community Centre.
