The realm of the titans
It sounds like the title for a Marvel movie, doesn't it? We continue our theme of the Tibetan wheel of life, and this week continue discussing each of the various realms we can find ourselves in at some time. Tonight, Cittamuni is going to share his reflections on the realm of the asura, or titans.
You don't need to believe in re-birth to understand the six realms of existence. They can be thought of as places in which we can reside at various times in our life, depending on the conditions we experience and our response to them.
The titans are strong and powerful beings who are marked by their fierce envy. The karma of hate and jealousy causes rebirth in the asura realm (in this or another life). Strongly competitive, with little sympathy for those they see as inferior, they might outwardly display justice, worship, wisdom, and faith, but are impatient and suffer from serious craving they disguise as the desire to achieve. You may know an Asura or two.
