TONIGHT: Understanding the Journey - The Triratna System Of Practice

When you first encounter Buddhism you may notice that there are a lot of lists: the 4 truths, the 5 precepts, the 3 poisons, to name but a few. It can be bewildering and confusing – how do all these ideas fit together?

Sangharakshita, founder of the Triratna Buddhist Community, devised a unique approach to show how all the elements relate to each other. Instead of a number of discreet items to be analysed and learned, he chose to present the spiritual life as a series of processes to move though. This series is known as “the System of Practice.”

By engaging with these processes more purposefully and fully, we can know where we are at in terms of our spiritual development, and also what we need to do when we become stuck in any part of our journey. This engaging with process and relaxing into process then becomes the foundation of our spiritual practice.

Suvarnadhi tonight will outline the 5 stages of the System of Practice, which is the cornerstone of our Buddhist tradition, and which will be the theme we discuss over the next couple of months.

Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community as well as an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Buddha's teaching, and their understanding of how to practice it.
