The fourth stage of metta

Tonight Malcolm will explore the fourth stage of the metta practice; metta for a difficult person. This difficult person may be someone you dislike or dislikes you, or who makes your life difficult, or someone with whom you are locked in habitual non-communication. Whatever the challenge, extending friendliness to this person is a test of our capacity to look beyond our own limited view. Learning to bring empathy and non-judgement through the cultivation of metta can transform relationships and create feelings of greater ease and safety in the world. Malcolm will explore how he has approached this challenging stage and how it has impacted his life.

In this series we will:

  • discuss what metta is
  • explore different ways to open our hearts to cultivate positive emotion
  • look at the role of body awareness, imagination and loving-kindness as way of being
  • explore our own experience with developing friendliness in our lives and the effect this has had on our well-being and those who come into contact with us

Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community as well as an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Buddha's teaching.
