Moving away from the wheel of life
Last week Sthiraratna described the principle of pratitya samutpada (conditioned co-production), and how if we do not see it clearly, it can tie us to the wheel of life and "mundane existence" through the cyclic (negative) nidana chain (or links of conditionality).
But by using the very same principle, we can identify a spot in that chain where we have a choice to change the conditions. This spot, roughly equivalent to what is known in modern pop psychology as "the gap", is an identifiable point in the flow of our lives where we can choose to make a radical change in direction.
And when we do this we can start a new path, move away from the cyclic nidana chain, to a "spiral path", a positive series of links that, while conditioned, can lead us toward the realm of the unconditioned - to nirvana.
Where is the gap to be found? And how do we make use of it? Come along this evening and find out.
Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it. They generally include a talk and discussion, a social cup of tea and meditation.
Before attending, please read our current Covid Guidelines. This is part of how we practice together.
