For the last ten weeks, we have followed the theme of the Tibetan wheel of life, an image that describes how we get trapped into the cyclic inertia of conditioned existence. It just goes round and round.
This theme has included looks at the various realms we can find ourselves in, especially if our habitual tendencies respond to the conditions at play in a negative way. Throughout the talks we have seen the dangers and what might lead to them.
In the last two weeks we have seen how we can use the mechanism of conditionality itself to detach ourselves from the wheel and onto a path that can lead us to higher spiritual riches.
Tonight is "reflections night" and we have invited Emma Mayhead to reflect on what is the power of the theme itself, as well as any points that particularly stand out in relation to her own life.
Emma is a mitra who has recently returned to New Zealand after six months in India, Nepal and the UK, where she attended the Triratna Young Person's Dharma Life course at Adisthana, a major hub in the Triratna Buddhist movement (Triratna HQ) in the UK
Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community, deepen their knowledge of Buddhism, and their understanding of how to practice it. They generally include a talk and discussion, a social cup of tea and meditation. Note that we are temporarily meeting at the Ponsonby Community Centre until we get our new centre in Mt Eden suitably prepared for these events. *
