The worldly winds

Tonight Vajrasarasi will introduce a new series of talks on the Worldly Winds.

The Worldly Winds consist of 8 pairs of attributes that we all encounter in our lives:

  • praise and blame
  • fame and shame
  • loss and gain
  • pleasure and pain

We get caught up in the drama as each one sweeps through our lives, desperately holding on to the good ones, and trying to avoid the painful ones.

The trouble is, we create more suffering for ourselves because each of these states is unavoidable, and each of these states is impermanent. Try as we might, we cannot avoid the unpleasant nor hold on to the desirable.

Only understanding their true nature can we see through the mirage and develop the equanimity required to ride the waves of our circumstances.

Wednesday nights are a place for people who have attended our foundation courses to come together and celebrate community as well as an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Buddha's teaching, and their understanding of how to practice it.
