In February 2017 it will be 20 years since the Sudarshanaloka Stupa was dedicated by Triratna founder Sangharakshita. The stupa contains ashes of Dhardo Rimpoche, a friend and teacher of Sangharakshita and inspiration to many in our sangha.
Come practice and celebrate with us, over three linked events inspired by Dhardo Rimpoche’s mottos inscribed on the stupa:
6pm Sunday 29th Jan to evening Friday 3rd Feb
A playful journey through the physical elements as we make preparations for the weekend of public events. Engaging with earth, water, fire, air and space through meditation, ritual, reflection and work, with lots of opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the land, the river and the company of friends.
Saturday 4th Feb from 10am
An informal day of arrival for the weekend, settling and tuning in to summer at Sudarshanaloka. Walk the bush, swim the river, deepen into the beauty and significance of this place. Families welcome and children activities in the afternoon. Bring (vegetarian) lunch to share. Dinner provided.
Sunday 5th Feb from 9.30am
Gather at the gate (for a 10am start) for a self-directed walking pilgrimage up the Dharma Road, arriving at the Stupa for 11am. (Transport available for those who need it). There follows a day of ritual, reflection and celebration of Dhardo Rimpoche and the symbolism of the stupa. Lunch and refreshments provided. Bring usual sun/rain protection for outdoor activity.
Monday 6th is a public holiday (Waitangi Day) so feel free to stay over Sunday night and make a leisurely departure on Monday.
