Shraddhavira died on Monday 23 March at the CHT Beachhaven Care Home in Auckland, aged 89.
While it's been many years since he's been able to be present at the centre, some of you will remember him well from the 10 years that he volunteered at the ABC in Grey Lynn. He managed the bookshop, led meditations and met visitors in such a kindly way that it had a strong effect on many of us.
His friend Guhyasiddhi noted that in Shraddhavira's last years, he consistently expressed gratitude and delight in his environment, the care he received, the retreats he'd been able to attend and the Dharma he'd learned and practiced. "He enjoyed being able to reflect upon his life and listen to the Concert Programme in his headphones and pocket-size radio. He became a mentor in how to live with gratitude."
Details of his life celebration at the ABC (likely later in April) will be available soon.
We rejoice in Shraddhavira’s life and sincerely wish his journey through the bardo is illuminated by his yidam Vajrasattva.
