Centre re-opening in August

Pending a public use certificate

Shrine room in development (ABC)

The finishing touches are underway at our Normanby Road centre, and we feel confident enough to plan for a return date and a series of opening events.

All plans are contingent on a certificate of public use coming through from the city council, but for now we thought it a really good idea to invite you to save one or all of the dates below.

We know if we have a single opening event we won't squeeze everyone in and of course not everyone will be able to make it, so instead there will be a series of events throughout August and September. There will even be a mitra ceremony (August 16) and welcome back for our newly ordained Order members (August 30) woven into a series of rituals opening the mandala of the five Buddhas at the centre.

Ritual for Order members and mitras only

Saturday 2 August at 5pm.

Classes, chapters, study groups to resume

Monday 4 August onwards

Public open day

Saturday 9 August. Bring your friends and neighbours for a tour and a simple introduction for newcomers. All welcome. Details to come.

Opening the mandala of the five Buddhas: a series of rituals

Everyone is welcome to each of these events.

Saturday 16 August at dawn (6.30am) - mitra ceremony and ritual around the Buddha Akshobhya

Saturday 23 August at midday - ritual around the Buddha Ratnasambhava

Saturday 30 August at 4.30 / 5pm (TBC) - welcome back for new Order members and ritual around the Buddha Amitabha

Saturday 6 September at 11.59pm (midnight crossing into Sunday) - ritual around the Buddha Amogasiddhi

Saturday 13 September at 7pm - ritual around the Buddha Vairocana

More details to follow in coming weeks.

What about the kauri gum?

If you were present at our closing ritual for the Grey Lynn centre in May 2023, you may be wondering what to do with the piece of kauri gum you took for safekeeping until we were established in our new home. There will be opportunities at each and every event to offer your kauri gum piece back to the new centre, so bring it along.
