The India Dhamma Trust has produced information about Dr Ambedkar for us to enjoy and share with our sangha in order to celebrate Dr Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary (14 April) as well as the 60 years since he converted to Buddhism along with 500,000 of his followers (14 October).
If you are unfamiliar with Dr Ambedkar and his particular significance for Triratna in India, we would recommend Nagabodhi's book which can be downloaded as a free pdf from the Wildmind website (scroll to the bottom of the article for the download link).
Here is a link to a 15 minute video ‘Celebrating Dr B.R. Ambedkar’ in which Subhuti offers four main reasons why we might remember and honour this great man; he points out that Dr Ambedkar's vision for the potential of Buddhism to create a pure land is not just for India - it is an important message for Buddhists worldwide.
There is also a series of talks by Dh Vajratara about Dr Ambedkar and his relevance to Western Buddhists. The above is a link to the first of these talks.
Chanting Indian style (with flute music) by Dh Chandrabodhi including the refuges and precepts Indian style, the Tiratana Vandana and several other devotional practices.
You will also find (video) interviews with Dhammachari Ratnakumar, Dhammachari Yashosagar and a personal talk by Dhammacharini Jnanasuri who was at Dr Ambedkar’s conversion in 1956.
We hope you enjoy these offerings and that they help bring Dr Ambedkar to mind along with the thousands of members of our sangha who not only revere him but feel an immense gratitude to him.
Jai Bhim!
